For the next few weeks, we will highlight recent patents that utilize the TA.XTPlus Texture Analyzer. This week’s featured patents are a patent for a unit dose dispensing apparatus and a patent for the design and manufacture of multi-layered orally disintegrating tablets.

Unit dose dispensing apparatus patent:

This patent includes a description of a Dose and Seal Test Method which captures the procedure used to evaluate a consistent unit dose and effective seal. This test method is conducted using a TA.XTPlus Texture Analyzer.

The patent describes “a composition dispensing apparatus which can deliver a repeatable and accurate unit dose of a composition comprising: a compressible container; a unit dose delivery system comprising an entry element, an exit element, side walls and a dosage chamber; a dispensing aperture; wherein the linear movement ratio of the exit element to the entry element is about 1 or less.”

Design and manufacture of multi-layered orally disintegrating tablet patent:

The patent includes a description of a Disintegration Test with Texture Analyzer TA.XTPlus Texture Analyzer.

The patent describes an invention that features a tablet containing a first layer and a second layer. The first layer of the tablet includes a pharmaceutically active agent and its composition is different from the composition of the second layer. The tablet has a density less than about 0.8 g/cc and it disintegrates in the mouth when placed on the tongue in less than 30 seconds.
