Recent Patents and the TA.XTPlus: Unit dose dispensing apparatus and orally disintegrating tablets
Wondering how texture analysis can benefit your team?
For the next few weeks, we will highlight recent patents that utilize the TA.XTPlus Texture Analyzer. This week’s featured patents are a patent for a unit dose dispensing apparatus and a patent for the design and manufacture of multi-layered orally disintegrating tablets.
Unit dose dispensing apparatus patent:
This patent includes a description of a Dose and Seal Test Method which captures the procedure used to evaluate a consistent unit dose and effective seal. This test method is conducted using a TA.XTPlus Texture Analyzer.
The patent describes “a composition dispensing apparatus which can deliver a repeatable and accurate unit dose of a composition comprising: a compressible container; a unit dose delivery system comprising an entry element, an exit element, side walls and a dosage chamber; a dispensing aperture; wherein the linear movement ratio of the exit element to the entry element is about 1 or less.”
Design and manufacture of multi-layered orally disintegrating tablet patent:
The patent includes a description of a Disintegration Test with Texture Analyzer TA.XTPlus Texture Analyzer.
The patent describes an invention that features a tablet containing a first layer and a second layer. The first layer of the tablet includes a pharmaceutically active agent and its composition is different from the composition of the second layer. The tablet has a density less than about 0.8 g/cc and it disintegrates in the mouth when placed on the tongue in less than 30 seconds.
