Stable Micro Systems has recently published a very interesting blog article on scaffolds for tissue engineering. In the developing world of tissue engineering, scaffolds are used as a temporary support for the culture of cells and tissues in the body with the final aim of restoring lost tissue functionality. Scaffolds must be mechanically strong enough to maintain integrity through the time of implantation to the complete of the tissue remodeling process. They also must ultimately disintegrate when tissue has successfully regenerated and the scaffold is no longer needed by the body.
