Background

Apples are among the most popular fruits in the U.S. Consumers typically assess their quality through both visual and physical inspection. The agricultural industry uses many visual and physical grading metrics including using a Magness-Taylor penetration probe (TA-212) to quantify flesh firmness. This study uses a TA-053 3 mm puncture probe alongside the TA-212 to compare the firmness of different apple varieties.
