Technical Support

Technical support is available for hardware issues, software issues, applications support, calibration and verification and almost any other topic a user can describe. This support is available on a first-response basis from the regional manager for your territory. The regional managers will be in a better position to assist you since they should already understand what resources your firm hase dedicated to the testing program and also what products, fixtures and software programs you have. Support is also available by telephone from any of our other Texture Technologies offices, and also from SMS in the UK.

Each instrument is shipped with our calibration & verisfication manual, which we would be please so send again to our customers by e-mail upon request.

Preventative Maintenence Contracts

Our instruments are very rugged and do not require service, calibration or preventative maintenance contracts during or after their warranty periods.

At no time in the history of our company has our revenue for servicing ALL of our outstanding instruments, even those sold 17 years ago, ever exceeded 3/4 of 1% of total revenue. Over the last five years service revenue has been well under 0.5% of total revenue. Basically that means that SMS has always made extremely good kit, and that if anything ever goes wrong it is almost certainly a very minor item. As a reference benchmark, since many of you own aging instrons out there, the last year Instron was a public company they had $30 million in service revenue, which was 16% of their total revenue. Its $10.5 million in service profit that year was almost equal to its then $11.5 million corporate net income. Clearly their business model is built on service at a high ongoing cost to the customer

SMS and TTC believe that an instrument should be designed so that it will be very tolerant of the conditions and operators that get thrown at it in the course of its operating life. That lets our clients stay focused on profitably using our equipment and perhaps helps explain our high repeat business when new opportunities arise.

We teach our clients to calibrate and verify the instruments that we sell them by themselves, and thus they do not need to buy expensive calibration services or preventative maintenance contracts like those sold by Instron and similar materials test equipment vendors.
